Community Energy Partnership: Residential

The Community Energy Partnership provides several initiatives engaging and benefiting residents of partner cities.

Energy Education & Outreach

Through participation in various community events, CEP staff reach out to individuals and families, educating about energy creation, its environmental impacts and how we can reduce usage. The CEP participates in or hosts local community events like festivals, concerts in the park, senior events, beach clean-ups, and other gatherings. We distribute energy efficient technologies and provide information on utility programs, energy–saving behaviors, and purchasing choices to help consumers to reduce their energy use, save money on their utility bills, and help the environment.

The CEP also hosts "energy rallies," short energy education seminars that provide opportunities for residents to learn about saving energy in their homes and sign-up for Home Energy Efficiency Tune-Ups.

Energy Efficient Technologies

The CEP distributes free technologies creating immediate electricity and natural gas savings for residents.

  • Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs (CFLs) – use 75% less energy, and last about 10 times longer than standard incandescent light bulbs.
  • Faucet Aerators – save water and energy by introducing air into the water stream.
  • Torchiere Lamps – halogen torchieres use 250 watts of electricity and are fire hazards reaching temperatures close to 1,000 degrees. Dimmable fluorescent torchieres use only 55 watts and generate much less heat.
  • Efficiency First! Starter kits – these provide an outreach vehicle for marketing and education about Energy Efficiency. Each pack is in an Earthwise reusable bag and contains a CFL, two faucet aerators, a showerhead, an Energy Savers booklet and lots more.

Home Energy Efficiency Tune-Ups

The CEP provides no cost energy upgrades through our Home Energy Efficiency Tune-Ups, worth up to $250 (including materials and services), to a limited number of home owners and renters in our partner cities. Tune-Ups deliver immediate gas and electric savings through the direct installation of energy efficient products such as CFLs, low-flow faucet aerators and low-flow shower heads.

Benefits include: saving energy, saving money, increased comfort, reducing peak energy demand, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Home Energy Efficiency Tune-Ups are a 3 step process:

  1. Assessment – Licensed contractors perform a thorough assessment of the home to identify efficiency upgrades and/or replacements.
  2. Tune-Up – Contractors install identified measures.
  3. Smart Energy Management Education – Participants receive educational tools to help them manage their energy use wisely with the direct help of contractors who identify additional saving opportunities and direct residents to other utility programs.
