    What happens when a group of cities, local utility companies and The Energy Coalition work together to change energy consumption?  A new ethic is unleashed, helping each participating community adopt new energy efficiency practices in their local municipal facilities, climate action plans are developed, and community members become engaged.  See how Brea, Corona, Culver City, Irvine, Moreno Valley, San Bernardino, Santa Clarita and Santa Monica, along with Southern California Edison and Southern California Gas Company, have teamed up with TEC to foster lasting change.

    TEC facilitates the CEP and bears primary responsibility for project management, performance tracking and implementation of energy efficiency programs and services to populations of the City. We have demonstrated our ability to work with municipalities since 1998, to successfully implement energy efficiency programs and achieve energy savings for the participating cities and their communities.

  • Outcomes

    The CEP brings energy efficiency benefits to many different individuals and communities including homeowners, renters, business owners, senior citizens, municipal employees and the City as a whole. By empowering consumers to take responsibility for their energy use with a focus on positioning the City as a leader, the program delivers a substantial amount of energy savings which in turn benefits the environment.

  • The Energy Network

    The Energy Network is a pilot project offering ‘one stop’ energy services to local governments, their residents and businesses within the Southern California Edison (SCE) and Southern California Gas (SCG) service territories. Its large scale, cross-sector energy management strategies complement and supplement services provided by these utilities.

    TEC designed and now leads the implementation of The Energy Network’s Public Agency Subprogram which is currently available to over 700 agencies throughout Southern California. At no cost to agencies, The Energy Network identifies energy saving measures and works side-by-side with agency staff from designing performance specifications through construction to help accomplish energy efficiency projects. The Energy Network does this by offering a full turnkey solution that makes upgrades faster than was previously possible. The program also customizes services according to agency’s needs.  Services include project start-to-finish management support, technical assistance, access to financing, competitively bid specialty contractors, transparent pricing and assistance with utility rebate processing.     The Energy Network is a partnership among the County of Los Angeles, Southern California Edison, Southern California Gas Company and its implementers. The Energy Coalition is the implementer for the public agency energy efficiency program. The program is administered by the County of Los Angeles and funded by California utility ratepayers under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.

  • Outcomes

    The project is laying the foundation for market transformation by utilizing the collective power of residents, businesses, and the public sector  to achieve an unprecedented level of energy savings across Southern California. Since launching the program in mid-September 2013, 42 agencies have enrolled with 126 projects in the pipeline in over 175 facilities. These projects, including 15,000 street light projects, project an estimated electric savings of 48 million kWh and an estimated construction budget of over $65 million.

  • Predictive Analytics Customer Engagement

    Predictive Analytics is extensively applied today in business, politics and sports where it is used to drive customers to purchase products, to vote for particular candidates or predict what a baseball player is really worth.  While not yet widely applied in the public sector, predictive analytics holds significant promise in the water and energy field to influence individuals to make sustainable resource decisions. Utilizing big data, large-scale surveys and predictive modeling methodology, we are able to identify the most cost-effective combination of messages, marketing materials and communication channels to reach and influence choices of individuals make about how they use resources such as energy and water. TEC’s Predictive Analytics Customer Engagement Strategy is based on the fact that people make decisions and take action for their own reasons and that finding those reasons and delivering individualized, persuasive messaging is the linchpin of enduring behavior change.

    As California is in the face of a historic drought, persuading people to save water and make wise water efficient choices is of critical and timely importance and TEC’s Predictive Analytics Customer Engagement Strategy is an approach that offers agencies refined control for targeted conservation through better targeted, more effective advertising.

  • Outcomes

    The overall approach offers a significant return on investment such as:

    • Which ads, messages and formats work and which ones don’t in each medium (such as social media, digital ads, email templates, direct mail, etc.);
    • How much to spend on each ad in each medium;
    • Which individuals and households will take the desired action in the absence of any advertising or communications;
    • Which individuals and households will take the desired action in response to each ad or communication in each medium;
    • Which individuals and households should be targeted with each ad or communication in each medium, and;
    • The cost of delivering each ad or communication to each individual or household in each medium.

    TEC’s Predictive Analytics Customer Engagement Strategy for consumer behavior change offers agencies, utilities and companies the opportunity to reach their water and energy efficiency goals through relevant information, actionable insights, smarter customer decisions, better outcomes and less cost.

    TEC is the architect of PEAK, an energy education program designed to empower students to become smart energy managers.  PEAK provides comprehensive energy curriculum correlated to California academic content standards, professional development for educators, a toolkit of supplies for each hands-on PEAK lesson, interactive assemblies, classroom assistance, instructional planning, field trips and a wide range of special events.     PEAK works in tandem with schools, districts, County Offices of Education, state and local agencies as well as with a wide range of community-based partners to bring PEAK to several hundred schools each year.

    In partnership with Pacific Gas and Electric, Southern California Edison, Southern California Gas, San Diego Gas and Electric, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, The Energy Coalition’s PEAK program directly impacts nearly 25,000 future energy consumers and their families each year.

    PEAK’s goal is to equip future energy consumers with the tools to manage energy wisely now and in their futures. PEAK students understand the impact their energy choices make on our planet, and through our award-winning curriculum students become smart energy advocates engaging in positive behavior change actions, are more proficient in science standards and are better prepared for the growing Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) career needs of California.
