Igniting San Diego Energy Careers with SDREN’s Energy Pathways Program

As California works toward its ambitious clean energy goals, we’ll need a skilled workforce to help power this transition. TEC believes that creating a clean energy future means empowering communities to take control of their energy destiny, and that includes ensuring everyone has a path to a good job in the clean energy economy.

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that TEC was selected to implement a new offering from the San Diego Regional Energy Network (SDREN): the Energy Pathways Program. This new project will build a local pipeline of skilled energy workers, with a special focus on opening up energy education opportunities for students in historically underserved communities.

About the Energy Pathways Program

The Energy Pathways Program will provide high school students in the San Diego region with a standards-aligned curriculum focused on career and technical education in the clean energy industry. Our goal is to prepare the next generation of energy leaders to thrive in the growing clean energy economy.

“We are incredibly excited about this partnership and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on San Diego’s underserved communities,” said Meaghan Laverty, Director of Marketing, Education, and Outreach at The Energy Coalition. “By creating a direct pathway to clean energy careers, we’re not just building a stronger workforce; we’re empowering students and families to build a more prosperous and sustainable future for themselves.”

Through this program, we will:

  • Expand access to clean energy education and green careers for high school students (grades 9-12).
  • Offer standards-aligned career and technical education curriculum focused on the energy sector.
  • Equip students with industry-specific knowledge and skills and direct connections to employers to prepare them to enter the workforce and support the region’s growing demand for skilled green energy professionals.

The TEC Advantage

With half a century of proven experience, TEC knows how to turn big energy goals into action. Our first education program back in 1975 helped Top of the World School in Laguna Beach, California to change the way students think about and use energy. Today, our flagship Energy is Everything program has now served thousands of educators and over half a million students with energy and career focused education. We’re proud to be a go-to education expert and nonprofit partner for organizations like SDREN looking to shape their communities’ clean energy future.

Our track record of delivering innovative programs and tangible results, combined with our deep understanding of the unique needs of underserved communities, made us the perfect fit for this project. We have a powerful network of local educators, industry experts, and community partners, and we’re committed to helping communities take power into their own hands.
