We’ve had some big news in the world of workforce development and climate recently! You may have heard the Biden-Harris administration announcement about a new American Climate Corps, which is taking the California Climate Action Corps model developed here in California nationwide. But did you know TEC is expanding our role in the growing California Climate Action Corps here in California, too?
About the California Climate Action Corps
Climate change is a growing threat to systems and people across the state of California, causing longer and more frequent droughts, devastating wildfires, and food scarcity. TEC partners with Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) to implement the California Climate Action Corps program, which places Fellows in 11-month service positions to advance California climate action through urban greening, wildfire resiliency projects, and organic waste and food recovery efforts. BACR chose TEC to support the project to leverage our expertise in customized training development, workforce development, and building trusted and equitable partnerships.
The California Climate Action Corps is an AmeriCorps national service and workforce development program funded through California Volunteers and the State of California. The program employs over 345 Fellows annually across the state.
How We’re Growing
This year, the program has tripled in size, growing from 115 Fellows to over 345 Fellows at over 90 partner sites. TEC is proud to have been tapped to develop the workforce development and climate action curriculum for this year’s cohort of Fellows. We also support program design and act as regional supervisors for 220 Fellows, providing coaching to lead them through their service term while supporting them in developing essential workplace skills.
Over the course of their Fellowship, TEC will provide over 60 hours of training to each participant to support their professional growth and help them to connect with long term career opportunities. With our large cohort this year, that adds up to over 20,000 hours of individual instruction!
