TEC Selected by San Diego Community Power for Regional Energy Program Development

The Energy Coalition believes in the power of local communities to create a clean energy future. That’s why we are proud to share that San Diego Community Power (SDCP), a community choice electricity provider in the San Diego area, has selected us to support their latest energy initiative.

San Diego Community Power is deepening their commitment to energy leadership by forming a regional energy network (REN) to serve all of San Diego County. What is a REN? It’s a way for local government agencies to offer energy-saving programs for residents, businesses, and public facilities. Before RENs, these types of energy efficiency programs were only offered by investor-owned utility companies. TEC has extensive experience working closely with RENs and community choice aggregators like San Diego Community Power, so it feels like a natural fit for us to help them form this new regional energy network!

“TEC has worked with regional energy networks since they first launched in 2013. We’re thrilled to build on their success to date and support the development of a new San Diego REN with SDCP’s leadership,” said Laurel Rothschild, Vice President at The Energy Coalition. “We understand the direct benefits RENs offer to communities, and we are excited to help bring those benefits to the San Diego region.”

In the course of designing and delivering successful energy programs, TEC has helped many organizations submit business plans, implementation plans, and budget advice letters to the California Public Utilities Commission. In fact, TEC was the lead author of the first-ever CPUC-approved REN implementation plan, which helped to establish SoCalREN. Now, SoCalREN is celebrating its tenth year of operations!

We are looking forward to working closely with San Diego Community Power on local and regulatory engagement efforts and on drafting a compelling business plan to administer energy programs as a regional energy network. This new initiative will bring shared community benefits to people throughout the San Diego region!
